5 Application Techniques You Need for Flawless Faux Lashes

5 Application Techniques You Need for Flawless Faux Lashes

Let’s be real: when you want lush, va-va-voom lashes, sometimes you’re going to need more than mascara. (You can ignore us if you’re blessed with naturally sky-high lashes.) Luckily, false lashes are having a moment—but they’re only worthwhile if you put them on correctly. Here are game-changing tricks for next-level lashes that will have you looking just extra enough.

Lash Hack #1: Brush Before Applying

Sometimes simple is your best bet, like this super-easy and effective tip: Brush out the individual hairs of your falsies before you even apply them. Use a clean, disposable spoolie (like the mascara testers found at beauty counters) to brush the hairs on lash strips in a sawing motion. The more brushing you do, the more voluminous and fluffier lashes will become. This is a great way to make inexpensive lashes look just as amazing as their pricier counterparts.

Lash Hack #2: Bend & Blend

Faux lashes will fit better and appear more natural if they match the shape of eyes, which are curved. Take each lash strip and curl into a curve to match the shape of the natural lashline. You can do this by wrapping the base of the lash strip either around a mascara tube or finger. Hold in a curled position for about ten second and release. Repeat with the other strip. Tracing the band of the lashes with a black liquid eyeliner will help them blend in better when applied to natural lashes.

Lash Hack #3: Prep & Prime

Having the right tools on hand and priming your canvas are key to making false lashes look flawless! Trim the faux lashes to fit your exact eye shape and size, snipping from the outer edge and never cutting upward through strips; instead, cut at the “vein” so you don’t accidentally chop half. Make sure you have all your lashes, glue, tweezers, mascara and a mirror that can be placed flat (see #5). Apply a thin layer of mascara to natural lashes; this primes with soft grip so false lashes can seamlessly adhere.

Lash Hack #4: Double Up

This hack is for the extra bold. If you happen to have two sets of false lashes that seem a bit too thin for your lash-batting needs, dial up the drama by doubling up. Apply a super-thin layer of glue, directly from its container, along the vein of lash, working from corner to corner. Stick the two lashes together, then to your lash line as you normally would. This is best when you want volume and long-lasting lashes that’ll make your eyes really pop.

Lash Hack #5: Look Down Into A Mirror

When it comes to actual application of false lashes, mirror placement and your gaze are crucial. Place your mirror flat on the bathroom counter or your vanity, framing each side with your elbows. This allows you to look downward into the mirror as you apply for a precision, custom fit.
